Parking is available to the left of the building. \nThis month’s speaker is Marlena Schugt\, Program Manager for BLOOM Business Empowerment Center\, an initiative of the York County Economic Alliance. \nMarlena will be speaking about the BLOOM Business Empowerment Center\, and its focus on small business & workforce development. She will talk about their programs\, including small business classes\, small business grants & financing\, networking opportunities\, industry training programs\, and hiring fairs. \nAs the Program Manager at the BLOOM Business Empowerment Center\, an initiative of the York County Economic Alliance\, Marlena supports BLOOM’s strategic mission to encourage the launch and growth of small businesses by offering a suite of services focused on capital\, education\, and opportunity. The BLOOM Business Empowerment Center provides resources countywide\, with an intentional focus to help small businesses owned by women and persons of color. She enjoys connecting with the community\, especially with entrepreneurs\, to hear how they bring their business plan to life with the support of BLOOM\, and with students as they explore the variety of unique career paths South Central PA has to offer. \nMarlena began at the YCEA just before the pandemic in 2020 and applied what she learned from supporting the several COVID-19 small business relief grant programs\, which awarded nearly $30 million to small businesses in York County\, to the launch of the BLOOM Business Empowerment Center in 2022. Since then\, BLOOM has grown to become a team of three led by Sully Pinos and joined by Marlena and colleague Lissuannette Rivera Mercado. Marlena oversees BLOOM’s Small Business Education programming\, which has welcomed over 700 entrepreneurs to its sessions\, and Grant Programs\, which have awarded over $660\,000 to nearly 300 small businesses. \nBecause of her experience as an intern at the YCEA while studying at York College of PA\, Marlena also coordinates the YCEA’s internship program to connect students from all fields of study to explore community & economic development with hands-on projects\, events\, and opportunities to further develop skills. \nMarlena continued her education by completing Leadership York’s Leadership Training Program\, the Grant Writing Certificate Program at Temple University\, the Pennsylvania Economic Development Association Basic Economic Development Course in PA\, and by representing York County in the Federal Reserve’s Reinventing Our Communities Cohort program as well as the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executive’s Equitable Credential Attainment Cohort Program. \nShe currently serves on the Board\, Executive Committee\, and the Fund Development Committee for the York Literacy Institute and has been engaged in committees for the York County Reentry Coalition\, York County Alliance for Learning\, Edgar Fahs Smith STEAM Academy Business Advisory Council\, and the Pennsylvania Economic Development Association. \nYou don’t want to miss this month’s luncheon! Meg’s presentation is No Ostriches Allowed: Face the Future with a Life Care Plan. \nMeg joined Bellomo & Associates in April 2021 and is co-creator\, alongside Jeff Belomo\, of the firm’s Life Care Planning program. Meg oversees all aspects of LCP\, including presenting educational workshops\, meeting families interested in planning\, managing her team\, and managing a client caseload. Her work combines her extensive clinical expertise with a deep commitment to helping families navigate the challenges of aging\, care\, and long-term planning. \nMeg earned dual bachelor’s degrees in Social Work and Piano Performance from Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College)\, graduating Magna Cum Laude and Phi Betta Kappa. She went on to earn her Master’s in Clinical Social Work with a concentration in Aging from the University of Kansas\, along with a Post-Master’s Certificate in Palliative Care from California State University’s Shiley Haynes Institute for Palliative Care. Additionally\, she is also a Certified Dementia Practitioner. \nMeg and her husband\, David\, made Hanover\, PA\, their home in 1990\, where they raised their three children. They have deep ties to the communities and fond memories of traditions such as church camps at Penn Grove Retreat and the annual Hanover Memorial Day parade. \nOutside of work\, Meg enjoys spending time with her growing family\, especially her first grandchild! She is an accomplished pianist\, a devoted cat lover\, and a Hallmark movie enthusiast. They will be doing a presentation about the York County Food Bank & the new Market at Princess Street. \nKelly Rogers is the Development Director with the York County Food Bank. She joined the Food Bank in 2021. Before working at the Food Bank\, she worked as an Advancement Director for a private elementary school in Harrisburg. Kelly has over 18 years of experience in the non-profit world. Kelly is thrilled to work with an organization that is a true team of staff and volunteers\, collaborating to help those in need. She is married to her husband Joe\, and they have three sons. \nLori Detter works for Deluxe Corporation as a Financial Institution Sales and Growth Manager.  She has been with Deluxe for 3 years\, and before joining the Deluxe team\, Lori had worked in banking for over 20 years.  Lori has lived in York County her entire life and is a graduate of York Suburban High School and Millersville University.  Lori is also a former member & board member of the Women’s Network of York.  Lori is passionate about supporting her community\, Church\, and local school district.  She currently serves on the Board of the York County Food Bank and spends many hours each year volunteering at various Food Bank events.  Lori enjoys spending her personal time with her husband & two children\, reading fiction books\, and walking her French Bulldog. \nYou don’t want to miss this month’s luncheon! Carolyn’s Presentation is “Estate Planning 101”. \nCarolyn\, a York County native\, brings a breadth of knowledge and experience to Bellomo & Associates. Most recently\, Carolyn was a shareholder in Pugh & Cutaia\, PLLC. She has been in private practice since serving as the first judicial law clerk for the Honorable Joseph C. Adams in the York County Court of Common Pleas. While in private practice\, Carolyn has zealously and caringly represented clients in diverse areas of law\, advocating and guiding them through the complex legal system. She is experienced in family law\, criminal defense\, estate law\, Social Security disability\, bankruptcy\, juvenile/school law\, municipal law\, and animal law. Her love of animals is further highlighted in the fact that she obtained her undergraduate degree in animal science from Pennsylvania State University before she pursued her law degree at Dickinson School of Law. \nIn addition to her legal acumen\, Carolyn brings hands-on people skills to her new role. Most recently\, Carolyn was a Custody Conciliator and Court appointed Mediator for the county of York. In these roles\, she used her negotiation skills and knowledge of family law to help the litigants reach a consensus if possible. Carolyn cares deeply about the York County community and has been on the board of the Horn Farm Agricultural Education Center and the York County Parks Auxiliary Board. She coordinated the York County High School Mock Trial Competition for several years. She is currently a member of the York County Bar Association and serves as the Editor of the York Legal Record. \nCarolyn is very close to her large family – her parents\, four brothers\, three sisters-in-law\, four nieces\, and four nephews. She enjoys family gatherings and spending time with her menagerie of pets (her dog\, Kip\, her horse\, Liam\, and her three cats\, Smoochie\, Gus\, and Bean). Alisha’s Presentation is “Safety First: Safety and Crime Prevention Tips for Some Common Situations”. \nOriginally from Bedford\, PA\, Alisha came to York for college and chose to stay and make York her home.  After graduating from York College of Pennsylvania with a degree in Criminal Justice\, Alisha was hired as the first female police officer for Spring Garden Township in 2000.  She was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2020\, which made her the first female sergeant.  Alisha has been the evidence technician for her department and a member of the York County Forensic Team for 22 years.  Alisha was involved with South Central Camp Cadet from 2004 to 2021. Currently\, Alisha is a Field Training Officer and the current Field Training Coordinator which means she is responsible for supervising the Field Training Officer squad.  She is also a Crisis Intervention team member and a Critical Incident Stress Management Peer.  Among Alisha’s other accolades\, she is a certified R.A.D. instructor for women’s self-defense\, a part-time instructor at the HACC Police Academy\, and she also assists with continuing education classes for police officers at HACC. \nOn a personal note\, Alisha is married to Jack and together they have a retired greyhound racer named Bodie.  She enjoys running and is a volunteer coach with York Suburban Cross Country.  Alisha also enjoys golf and is working to improve her game. \nYou don’t want to miss this month’s luncheon!
